Asa  Ambrose

Baritone

Asa Ambrose is a professional lyric baritone and voice teacher transitioning from Houston, TX to Chicago, IL. Asa will begin his graduate studies at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University.

On Stage

A versatile performer equally at home in operatic and musical theatre repertoire, Asa has appeared on prominent national stages including Miami’s New World Center, The Kennedy Center, and Houston’s Wortham Center and Hobby Center.

As a regular member of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus, his recent engagements for the 2025–26 season include Puccini’s Il Trittico, Puts’ Silent Night, and Händel’s Messiah. His previous credits with HGO include Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Other notable roles include Samuel (cover, The Pirates of Penzance), and LeFou (Beauty and the Beast). His partial roles include scenes from Così fan tutte (Guglielmo), The Magic Flute (Papageno), The Gondoliers (Giuseppe), and Candide (Candide, Maximilian).

Ambrose is a graduate of Texas Christian University and is a former Studio Artist with OPERA San Antonio–Classical Music Institute, and an alumnus of the Washington National Opera Voice Institute and National YoungArts.

In the Studio

Asa is a committed voice teacher who believes in authentic expression and vocal efficiency through embracing the body's innate design. Growing up immersed in music, Mr. Ambrose developed a deep passion for empowering others to discover confidence and authenticity in their singing.

Student Success

His Houston-area students are highly successful in the voice and theatre community, consistently earning top honors in the TMEA, TPSMEA, and ACDA audition circuits. In 2026 alone, eight of his students were invited to the SWACDA honor choirs, alongside numerous advancements in the UIL Solo & Ensemble process. Beyond the choral landscape, his students are active performers on professional and regional stages, appearing with organizations such as Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), Wildfish Theatre, HITS Theatre, Houston Grand Opera, and the Alley Theatre.

Asa lives in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago with his husband, Nathan, and their Shiba Inu, Cinnamon.
